![]() Once again my week with Carnegie's resident ensemble ACJW has proved a thrilling ride. After the first rehearsal a couple of the players suggested a little light costuming up for the performance and I jumped on the suggestion. I spent a weird fruitless afternoon going around the watch shops in various parts of Manhattan looking for old clock parts, even getting refused exit from one near Carnegie - most were offering a cog for somewhere in the region of $100 which wasn't really practical. Once we got up to Saratoga (where we had a residency at Skidmore College), the indefatigable - and brilliant- bassoonist Shelley Monroe Huang whizzed off one lunch break to a bike shop and came back with a bucket full of bike gears and chains - perfect for the Steampunk look. Here are a couple of my favourite shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Besides all the fun though, this new crop of ACJW-ers is every bit as good as the ensemble's previous incarnation- and that's saying something. What a treat it is to work with people who have talent and enthusiasm in equal measure. It really is as good as it gets.
